Tyler Scott

Pastor of Community Life

Tyler Scott has been working at Neighborhood for 9 years (since October 1998). Tyler currently serves as the Pastor of Community Life, Team Leader of the Community Life Department.

Tell us about yourself:

I love God, my family and friends, sports, competition (especially winning:), movies, Nike running shoes, warm weather, laughing...and hangin' out with people who don't know Jesus yet. I'm a native Californian and a product of pop culture (which is good and bad).

My wife Bridget and I have been married 6 years. She's incredible. She loves Jesus, loves people, and is an amazing mom. All in all, she's a lot more likable than me. We have two boys -- Trevor (3) and Owen (1) -- who keep us super busy and bring us much joy. And we live in Danville.

The biggest lessons God has been teaching me lately seem to come from my kids. The love of the Father; our tendency to rebel; the power of grace; the importance of discipline; the fact that people learn how to live by watching us (yikes!).

I'm a graduate of UCLA (B.A., Mass Communications, 1996), Pepperdine University (M.B.A., 1998), and Fuller Theological Seminary (M.Div., 2003)...and I love all three of those schools for lots of different reasons.

What do you do as Pastor of Community Life?

I teach at 6:13 (our Sunday night service), lead Kollao (our Young Couples/Young Families ministry), and serve as the Team Leader in the area of Community Life. Community Life consists of Small Groups, BLINK Welcome Teams, Technology, and Care Ministries. I'm privileged to lead and partner with the talented team of pastors who serve in these areas.

What is the best part of your job?

I get to work with fun people who I genuinely love. But the absolute BEST part is seeing the simple Gospel message -- that we're saved by grace, through faith in Jesus alone -- change the hearts and lives of lots of people. That NEVER gets old.

What do you order at Starbucks?

I usually go to Peet's...and I get a medium, non-fat cappuccino with an add shot. (That's a triple, for those of you keeping score at home.)

If you could be doing anything right now, what would it be?

Chillin' with my family and friends at a beach villa in the Italian Riviera. Coolest place I've ever been. You should go.

What is your favorite movie quote?

Anything from Fletch, A Few Good Men, Dumb and Dumber, Rounders, or The Shawshank Redemption.

What talent do you wish you had?

I wish I could sing and play guitar. (Basically, I wish I was Jeff Zabel:)

If you could make 3 "little" Confessions, what would they be?

  1. I love L.A.
  2. I enjoy reality TV.
  3. My admiration for Joe Montana once bordered on idolatry. (There, I said it.)
