Sharon Turney
Children's Ministry Music Director
Tell us about yourself:
Jesus Christ is the lover of my soul. I thank God for my husband, high school sweetheart and writing partner, Don, who is an accomplished Pianist and Music Producer. Together, we run a Music Production and Graphic Design business, DKS Productions, and we live in Hayward with our two amazing daughters, Kayla and Karissa. As a graphic designer, I specialize in CD artwork and packaging. I grew up with a music-filled environment in a Christian home, and began my lyric and script-writing career upon the untimely death of my mother, a successful children's music writer, in 2000. My husband and I became writing partners and collaborated on the release of our debut musical, "Ultimate Superstar" at Neighborhood Youth Theater several years ago. Recently, we decided to follow the Lord's calling to start our own publishing company, KidsWorks. Needless to say, I stay pretty busy and my house is hardly ever clean! ;-)
What do you do as Children's Worship Leader?
As the Children's Worship Leader and Director of the VoiceMessage Kids Choir, I write music and scripts for children's choir, "The Adventure" (children's church) sketches and videos, drawing from my experiences teaching Sunday School, VBS and AWANA. VoiceMessage sings four times a year for Prelude in our church services, and two to three times a year for outreach events. Another of my responsibilities is to coordinate music and choreography leaders for Sunday Morning Worship. I have created a number of lesson and music videos, and I assist in designing sets and props, and creating costumes for "The Adventure" sketches. I also occasionally make an appearance on "The Adventure" stage as "Ginger Snap," a co-hostess "with the mostess."
What is the best part of your job?
Working with fun, creative people in music and drama, who love the Lord!
