1. Be On Time - There are many people to see in a short period of time your help by being punctual is always appreciated.
2. Your Appearance - Try not to wear things T-shirts that have distracting logos or sloppy jeans. The things that are fine to wear when hanging out with friends could distract someone from understanding you are a hard working actor, there to be part of a team process.
3. Speak Up - When saying your name or answering questions remember you are in an audition process so the clearer you are the easier for the director to see you mean business.
4. Song Choice & Preparation - Do not try to sing your highest, lowest, loudest, softest, sounds. Choose instead a song in your key that shows you solidly singing and without strain. Have your music copies clearly marked so the accompanist can support you in your audition. You will typically have 15 to 20 seconds to show the accompanist your tempo for your selection. Use this time wisely. Sing the beginning softly to the accompanist -don’t tap a beat on the piano . Just sing it. If there is a part of the song you sing at a slower or faster tempo, show that to the accompanist as well. Don’t try to learn a new song the week of the audition. Use a song where memorization is not a stress producing element in your audition.
5 Audition Presentation - Try not to engage people at the audition table in a presentational way, like singing the song to them, but rather find a spot on the wall just over their heads or around the room, and let them observe you acting while you sing the song. Use gestures that are appropriate for you song. Do not let the gestures define who you are as a performer. Your gestures should support the emotional message the song is conveying.
6. Be Nice - Part of a musical production is that a large group of people are going to be working together for a long time to create an artistic presentation. Being courteous is a preliminary element of team work.
